Obituary of Gregory "Greg" Perry Spencer
Gregory "Greg" Perry Spencer of Au Gres, Michigan passed away on November 25, 2017, after battling cancer; he was 66 years old. Greg was born in Flint, Michigan on December 23, 1950. He was the son the late Perry C. Spencer and the late Kathleen Gaines Spencer.
Greg grew up in Flint and attended the University of Miami, graduating with a degree in Physics in 1972. He later moved to the Northern Virginia area where he had a very successful career in software engineering. Greg retired as owner of a company he founded, InfoSoft Services, in 2003. After retirement, Greg moved to Au Gres and later became proprietor and owner of Dunleavy's Irish Pub. He was a self-taught and highly skilled woodworker and carpenter. In his spare time, Greg loved to design and build decks, household "convenience solutions," and furniture, often from repurposed materials. He loved to make chairs, toys, and pocketbooks for his grandchildren. He had most recently developed a passion for gardening.
Greg is survived by his daughters, Valerie Spencer Simon, Brooke Ann Spencer, Morgan Kristin Spencer; his soulmate and friend of 33 years, Carol Brooks; his sister, Lori Spencer Peterson; five grandchildren, Sierra, Max, Adrianna, Scarlett, and Gary; his extended family,brother-in-law Alex Peterson; and his niece and nephew Sarah Atkins and Grant Peterson who also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Samantha. A private memorial service to celebrate Greg's life is planned for Spring 2018.
