Richard Charles Federer, known to many as Dick, passed away on May 25, 2024, in Midland, Michigan, at the age of 80. He was a hardworking man and a dedicated builder who left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was born on December 21, 1943, to Francis and Venita Federer. He lived in Midland his entire life, spending winters in Tavares Florida for the past several years. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Bixler, on June 27, 1964. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for almost 60 years.
Dick was a bricklayer and a proud 50-year member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers, Michigan Local #2. His craftsmanship and dedication to his trade were unmatched, leaving behind a legacy of excellence. Beyond his career, Dick found joy in building and selling beautiful birdhouses, bird feeders, furniture, and other wood projects. His passion for gardening was evident in the lush greenery that surrounded his home and the delicious vegetables he grew. He also spent as much time outdoors as possible, hunting, fishing, golfing, or just visiting with friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Federer, his sons Scott (Michille) Federer and Brent (Katrina) Federer, his sister Phyliss (Ewan) Grantham, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren all of whom he loved very much. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gregg Federer, and great-grandson Spencer Federer.
A celebration of life to honor Dick's memory will be held at 1 pm, July 27, 2024, at the home of his son Brent 636 W Shaffer Road, Sanford, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital in his name.
