Obituary of Robert J. Chard

Robert James Chard Decker, Michigan Robert Chard, 80, died on December 15, 2020 at the Stonegate Village Assisted Living in Sandusky. He was born on May 8, 1940 in Marlette to Lydia (Arnold) and Clayton Chard. He married Doris Barr on May 28, 1960. Mr. Chard worked for Phillips Oil Company in Decker as a young man and then became a long-term employee of Yale Rubber Mfg. in Sandusky where he worked in the Shipping Department. He later served in the Sanilac Drain Commissioner’s Office for over 10 years. He took great pride in his work, enjoyed the colleagues and friends with whom he worked, and enjoyed meeting and helping people. He enjoyed outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends in the Chard’s woods on his family farm. Mr. Chard was a 1958 graduate of Marlette High School. He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers, Charles, Leon, and Ronald. He will be greatly missed by his children: Kelly Chard and John MacDonald of Clarkston, MI and David Chard and Michael Yeung of Boston, MA; his grandchildren: Cecilia Chard and Samuel Mosley of Austin, TX, Madeleine Chard of Boston, MA, James Chard of Austin, TX, and Lydia Hall of Clarkston, MI, as well as many wonderful brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends that continued to enrich his life to the end. Family and friends will be called to celebrate Robert’s life at a later date. The family appreciates the compassion and dignity demonstrated by the staff members of Stonegate Village and Hospice Compassus. Arrangements were made with the Cremation Society of Mid-Michigan.
