Elda Melinda Hood
Early on Thursday, August 13, 2020, Elda Melinda Hood, 75, left this world to join her loved ones in Heaven. She was born to Lelia Idesta (Williams) and Walker Stephen Thornton in December of 1944, in Mercer County West Virginia, A true "Coal Miner's Daughter".
She came to Michigan in the summer of 1962, at the age of 17, to help her sister Jean during the birth of her 4th child. Within a few weeks, she met Charles C. Hood, and married him a few weeks later (with her Daddy's permission), on July 27th, 1962.
She was a devoted home maker & wife, loving mother, grand mother & great grand mother, dear neighbor and friend. She taught her girls about the love of Jesus, and she lived the Golden Rule, treating her neighbors with love and kindness. She was a Detroit Tigers fan, and a lover of gospel hymns, and country and bluegrass music. She enjoyed spending time at home, but she also enjoyed a good long drive down dirt roads in the country, or a summer stroll through Frankenmuth.
Preceding Elda in death, her parents, husband Charles & daughter Patricia; 3 brothers: Carl, Jack & Johnny; 3 sisters: Joyce, Jean & Judy.
Surviving Elda are: daughter, Lois & son in law, Brent; granddaughters: Sylvia & Stephanie; grandson: Matthew; 6 great grand children - Teagan, Brooklann, Scarlett, Coralee, Charlie Rae & Drayton; 3 brothers: Ted Thornton, David Thornton and Steven Thornton; her sister Geneva Bullard; many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Special thanks to her neighbors, the closest family she had: Carrie & Joey, Sadie, Wesley, Bernetta & Leroy, and the "grandbabies" whom she adored and spoiled. Thank you for always being there for Mom and taking such good care of her.
Elda requested cremation with no funeral, which we will honor. Her remains will be placed with those of her beloved Charles at Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris at a future date.
