I am very sad to hear Kepka passed away. I contacted her in 1993 via KANSAS! Magazine where I red article about her Kraslice. She answered me with very nice 5-pages letter and sent me her beautiful painted egg which I still have and I use as decoration in my flat every Easter since then. I was 15 years old when we started our correspondence. In 1995 I spent a month in USA but unfortunatelly we didnt meet. And then in next years we somehow stoped with our letters. I am so sorry we never started to communicate again but I kept her in my mind and every Easter her Kraslice reminds me this amazing person. I am very glad I had a honor to have Betty Kepka in my life. Send my deep condolence to family. Monika ´Bohunka´ Cerna Stibalova from Czech Republic.

Sending prayers and comforting hugs to Betty's family. When I was in grade school,
I loved to visit my cousin Betty Rose, and her mother, Rose Kepka Hochman in
Ellsworth. I was amazed at the amount of paint and other art supplies she always
Was willing to share! Later as an adult, I admired her wonderful artistic talents,
Especially her Czech eggs! So happy she shared this with so many Wilson, KS
Students. With fond and loving memories I will remember her. Rest In Peace, Betty.

This week I was saddened to learn that of the most influential people in my life had passed. Betty "Kepka" Belton was my art teacher from 1979-1988 when I graduated. Wilson was truly lucky to have such an amazing woman as the art teacher. Her class was always the highlight of my day and one of the few places I felt free to be myself. Betty was a quirky and energetic free spirit who not only encouraged her students to free their minds and express themselves but was a vibrant, living, breathing example of what that could look like. Her classroom was always packed to the brim with a menagerie of eclectic and interesting things she would collect for us to study, draw, or draw inspiration from. Her enthusiasm was abundantly clear and often contagious as she would immerse herself and her students in whatever artist, art from or technique she was currently fascinated by. It was this charisma and enthusiasm that kept me enthralled and ultimately prepared me to the point that I was well ahead of my peers when I went to college to study art. Betty not only taught me to paint, draw, work with clay, and decorate kraslice but showed me what it looked like when someone wasn't afraid to live their truth and be their true self. Always a good sport and source of inspiration Betty Belton was my first mentor and she will be truly missed by the many students she taught and especially by me. Thank you for the inspiration, education and the many many good times, I'm sure you're hard at work reshaping your little corner of heaven to reflect who you are and how you see the world.

One of the most influential persons in my life! Betty Kepka-Belton was my art teacher from Kindergarten until my Senior year in high School in Wilson, Kansas. She was this master of arts planted in the middle of our rural community and was one of the most free spirits and eccentric figures I have ever known. She took her art serious and expected the same of her students. It was as if she was made of clay, wax, paint and ink. Her hands were always covered in the ink or paint or mud from throwing pottery. The jewelry she had made, often heavy clay sculpture art, adorned her frail neck. Although small in stature she was strong. Her art filled our lives and made life better. It was she who gave me direction and courage not only in the arts but in life. Love you Betty, a true Kansas Original.

Mrs. Belton will be greatly missed. She's been inspiration for many of us to become artists. I have had her from kindergarten to graduation of high school as my art teacher. She taught us the tradition of making Czech eggs. It's a tradition that many of us still do today. I find great joy making Czech eggs. I have many great memories off class with her and trips her and I took together to art shows. We have all missed her warm smile and her Great sense of humor. I will hold a place in my heart for you Betty. A great artist, teacher and friend!

Betty as we called her was a wonderful art teacher. Creating Czeck eggs was probably my favorite thing in art class because it was more than art, it was a passing down of heritage. Her talent and passion was shared with thousands she taught. I know she has a special place in all the Wilson students hearts and we will all continue to cherish our Czeck eggs!

I have so many memories of Betty as she spent so many hours of class time teaching us all the basic tenets of art and the talented men and women who were the greats in the field. I learned so much from her and grew my love of art under her spunky guidance! I will always treasure the skills I learned under Betty's guidance in everything art but especially Kraslich Eggs...her tradition is carried on by her students even today! The sunsets will be colored a little brighter with Betty's artistic hand assisting in the beauty! I will miss her...
