"Johnie" John W. Darden was born in Lauderdale, Mississippi on December 21, 1929, to the late John Darden and Victoria (Moore) Darden. John grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, he loved Boxing and Singing. He came to Michigan in search of a new start and to make his dreams come true. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, write, listened and played music. People knew him as Suga Man, Pops and Charles. Everyone also knew him for his favorite special singing phrases "EH DAY" and "OOOWEE".
He is survived by his wife, Oralee (Tinsley) Darden; two daughters, Vickie D. Smith and Bertha R. Darden; grandchildren, Tyisha M. Darden, Janay C. Herbert, Jonathan M. Smith, Ericka R. Jones, Joseph Williams, Christopher M. Williams; three step-children, Bobby Jones, Dolores Williams and Johnnie Jones; nephews and niece, William Darden Jr. of Wisconsin, Ronald (Monica) Darden of California, Thomas Tinsley, & Rita K. (Mark) Boston of Detroit. Thank you to a very special care giver Sandra Dilliard. He had many other nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by three brothers, William (Bill) Darden, Alvin (Red) Darden, Earnest (Duck) Darden; one sister, Bertha Johnson; a niece, Debra Johnson; nephews, Joseph D. Darden, Craig Darden; and one grandson, Tony L. Steward.
