Obituary of John Kevin O'Connor
John Kevin O'Connor passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Bay County Medical Care Facility in Essexville, Michigan, but his larger-than-life persona, trademark tardiness and enormous heart will not be forgotten. By his side were his beloved children, Shannon Ruth O'Connor and John Christopher O'Connor with wife Jane Coyne. The son of the late Lt. Col. John Joseph O'Connor and Joann (Sporysz) O'Connor of Lexington, Kentucky, Kevin is survived by his children; his sister, Karen O'Connor; brother, Timothy O'Connor; his first wife, Cristie (Butcher) Rahn; his colleague, Pat Rahn; adopted step-sons, Ian Rahn and Kyle Rahn with wife Alyssa (Vrable) Rahn and baby Paxtin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and family by affection.
Kevin was a passionate teacher, listening ear and shoulder to lean on throughout his life. He earned his Bachelor's degree in K-8 education from the University of Kentucky, joyfully teaching 3rd – 6th grade at the parish schools St. Hyacinth's of Bay City (now Our Lady of Czestochowa) and St. Frances Reh of Saginaw, and retiring from Boysville of Frankenmuth. He was a writer, less of a poet, a devoted father, and drank only the finest lite beer. He spent his free time playing epic characters in both an independent zombie movie and many local community theater productions across multiple counties and two states.
Throughout his life, Kevin wove a complex and memorable tapestry of quotes his family and friends repeat to this day – sometimes even in public. Kevin made his exit with firm knowledge that the bean scene in "Blazing Saddles" will forever be funny, that you don't necessarily need training to dance, and that white socks can be worn with sandals after Labor Day. He was a great man, always quick with a smile or joke, and even quicker to spontaneously burst into song with lounge singer flair. He meant so much to so many people and will be deeply missed.
An informal wake will be held in his honor Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Caro. Those interested in attending are directed to contact Shannon O'Connor of Vassar, Michigan via Facebook for directions and details.
