Obituary of Ronald George Pettipas
On June 29, 2018 Ronald George Pettipas passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 11, 1937 in Nova Scotia Canada, he spent his youth playing pond hockey, working in the lobster fisheries, hunting and playing the guitar.
In 1957 his family packed the car and headed toward the United States. Crossing the border just after midnight on his 20th birthday, they settled in Mid-Michigan. Ron worked a variety of jobs before owning his own drywall business, where he had a reputation as an honest, no-nonsense, perfectionist. He played in many bands all over mid and northern Michigan, and was also a skilled artist in leather hand tooling. Ron was an avid hockey and baseball fan.
Ron was cut from the same tough leather as a breed of men where a hard days work showed up as calloused hands, and a story was best told with a good cup of coffee.
He will be remembered by his family for his complete devotion to them. If there was a deck to be built or a wall that needed to be painted, he was there. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Ron and Pat were married on November 14, 1991, sharing 26 years of marriage. Spending their time together outdoors, whether it was taking care of their horses, maintaining their property, or cutting and splitting wood.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Pat Sweebe; children, Donna (Elgin) Hess, Scott (Kathy) Pettipas; grandchildren, Carly Owens, Carson (Julie Battle) Hess, Sara (Scott) Morrisette, Ryan (Britnee) Pettipas, Aaron Pettipas; great-grandchildren, Ella Owens, Lukas Pettipas, Graham Morrisette; the mother of his children Carolyn Adcock; sisters, Theresa, Lorraine and Margaret. Ron was predeceased by his parents John and Lillian Pettipas; brothers Oakley, Orville, Ervin; and his sister, Agnes.
