John E. Groom passed away peacefully of natural causes May 8, 2018 at the Toni & Trish House, Auburn, MI.
Born the son of an outdoorsman, John was a man of simple ways and means. He lived life in the forest tucked away in his old log cabin in Bentley, MI. His favorite pass time would find him with pole-in-hand on the banks of many Michigan lakes and rivers where he taught his family the art of fishing and the way of the woods. He worked a short time for General Motors although, Industrial-Commercial Building Trades as a carpenter was his primary employment. He also built and sold homes independently.
Remember John for his honorable duty as a seaman in the U.S. Navy, for his whimsical stories, love of folk music, nature and his spirit of privacy.
Born the son of Loren F. and Alsebia M. Groom, August 30, 1934, he is survived by sister, Cloye Kilpatrick; daughters, Delite Zitta, Lorna Miller and Benita Carrier; two grandsons; and 2 great- grandsons. Placement at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd. Holly, MI with military honors is being planned.
