Helen Dewey, 90, passed away Saturday, February 17, at Rachel Sovereign Memorial Home in Bay City, MI. The daughter of Louis and Anna Lacina, she was born in Burton on October 16, 1927 and resided in Flint until 2015. Her parents were Czech immigrants who are memorialized on Ellis Island. She is survived by her sons: Dennis (Lorretta) of Colorado Springs, CO; Thomas (Elizabeth) of Bay City, MI; and Richard (Debra) of Flint, MI; her nieces Judith Lacina and Dorrie (Richard) Davis; and her nephew Richard (Marie) Lacina. Her grandchildren are Sandra (Matt) Hankinson; Dale (Corinne) Dewey: Kristina (Eric) Fenlon; Michael Dewey; Tina (Jesse) Martinez; Robin (Jonathon) McClain; and Anna Dewey. She is also loved by her many great-grandchildren and great-nieces and -nephews She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Louis and Joseph, and her nephew Robert. Helen married Roy Dewey on March 8, 1946, and they were together until his death in 1988. In later life she was blessed by the love and companionship of John (Jack) Fell until his death in 2015. A family woman, Helen was a lifelong member of Phoenix United Methodist Church, where she was the organist and pianist for more than fifty years. She also conducted the handbell choir that was established in memory of her husband Roy. She taught piano and organ to many students. Roy and Helen were avid campers with church groups and the Flint Roadrunners, travelling all over the US and Canada. She was also active with the Flint Senior Centers and the Canusa Games. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service at a later date. The family asks that donations in Helen's memory be sent to either Rachel Sovereign Memorial Home, 1014 Center Avenue, Bay City MI or to Phoenix United Methodist Church, Grand Blanc MI.
