So sorry for you loss. I actually just ran into Fats a few months ago. He remembered my name and we chatted for a little while. Oh the memories of ridding the bus. For many years he had to turn around and go back to Darbee Road Fats would come rights up to the steps and we went from porch step to bus step. One year my dad hadn't gotten the second drive plowed after a snow storm we got on the bus and he asked "do you think I can make it" of course we said "yes". My brother had to get the tractor out and pull the bus out to the road. His speeding up to go over bumps so we could get tossed a little going over bumps. Most of all Fats never ending big smile!!!!!

He had a way of picking up your spirit and encouraging you. He drove to many of the sporting events that I took part in and he was always wishing you the best with his encouraging words. After I was out of school, he always would tell you the latest joke or be the best of friends. He was without a doubt a great bowler, but how could he not be, he was left-handed! We all could say so many wonderful things about "Fats", he was loved by so many. Thoughts and Prayers to the Family, He was a great man! He'll be missed by so many!

My husband and I were saddened to read of Fats' passing. I always knew that when Fats was driving the bus to Ann Arbor for Band Day or to Saginaw or Flint for the Band festivals that there would be no trouble. He seemed to know the best ways of getting to our destination and never got flustered. He was a very kind man to all and the kids loved him. Truly a gentle giant!!

Fat was one of the first people we met after we bought the bowling alley. What a wonderful man, friend and bowler. I found out he knew my dad and played ball with my brother in Bay City. I guess that was a bond I felt with Fat. He would tell jokes one right after another entertaining everyone. He will be missed but the memories everyone will have will be good loving times. RIP my friend. Connie

I smile at seeing Fats name. He is one of those "given" memories for all of us who had the privilege of growing up in Akron. Fats always had a smile and a kind word--especially for the children. He was a good man. May his family be comforted to know how he touched so many lives.

We used to live next to FATS so many memories when we were kids. Mom worked if we needed anything we went to FATS when my brothers got into a fight with the shovels and hoes and my brother Bobby needed to go to the hospital FATS took him. We would go there and visit him regularly and he was also our bus driver and my sister Linda would cry every single morning. And FATS would tease her and say ,,,Linda you singing us a song again ... RIP Fats

So many happy memories of our great neighbor Fats. Always out plowing the streets of Akron and making nice piles of snow for us kids to slide down on our saucer! The skating rink over by R & S Corp. - as well as always lending a hand to rake the leaves.
Made sure I went and visited with him each time I came back to Akron.
Akron was a better place with him in it,
He will be missed

I was so sad to hear about the passing of a GREAT man "Fats Steele". He taught me how to be a great bus driver back in the day, when I worked there. He also drove bus for the many teams I played on while attending high school at good ol Akron Fairgrove High!! He always had a kind word to anyone he talked to and I will remember him always! Rest in Peace Dear Glen, Rest in Peace!!! May God wrap their arms around his family during this very difficult time!!
God Bless,
Catherine Cogo (Wolverton) Class of 1977

My earliest memories of Fats was the ice skating rink he so carefully created and maintained, the always warm garage where he helped "us" little tie our skates. And the wonderful piles of snow he made in different spots in town for the neighborhood kids. Always a smile and always everybody's favorite. Thanks for the fine example of "community pride and involvement " you have passed on to any generations !
