Obituary of Eileen Mary Horstman

Horstman, Eileen (Wischmeyer) Midland, Michigan Eileen Horstman (Wischmeyer) … loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin, and friend, joined her companions in heaven on June 20, 2016. Eileen (seventy-eight), was born in St. Louis Michigan to Harry and Emma Wischmeyer. Eileen was the tenth child in a family of eight boys and four girls. She was married fifty-five years to Donald Horstman of Cloverdale, Ohio. Eileen and Don started their life together in Cloverdale and Van Wert, raising their kids in Jackson and St. Johns (Michigan), and then living in Midland to be near some of their children and grandchildren. Eileen is survived by her husband and their five children: Keith (Aleah) Horstman, Terry (Susan) Horstman, Michele Horstman, Pam (Jim) Singer, Dave (Jessie) Horstman, and twelve grandchildren. Eileen lived a life of love and compassion, using her talents to care for children, family, friends, neighbors, and her church community. Growing up in hard economic times, Eileen's frugality provided resources for her family to thrive and enjoy life. She was a beacon of home cooked meals, of eating fruits and vegetables, of creating an inviting living space, and of exercising every day. A woman of strong faith, she lived the Psalm, "God will be our guide even unto death" (Psalm 48:14). A sharing of memories will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3109 Swede Ave, Midland, Michigan, on June 28th at 9:30am. Eileen's Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be celebrated by Father Kevin Maksym at 11:00am. Burial of ashes by immediate family (and anyone else who would like to attend) will be at St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery in Shepherd at 3:00pm. In recognition of Eileen's deep faith and life long commitment to cooking and feeding others, she asked that a donation to Blessed Sacrament's "Kitchen Capital Fund" be made in lieu of flowers (Eileen was adamant, "Flowers are for the living!").
