Sandy passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the age of 68. She was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on June 28, 1947 to the late Robert and Marilyn (Root) Canute.
She is a 1965 graduate of Buchanan High School, a 1969 graduate of Coe College, and received Masters in Library Science from both Central Michigan in 1979 and Wayne State University in 1995. She worked in both Reese and Bad Axe as a grade school teacher, then in White Pine Library Cooperative, and retired in 2009 as the Library Director at Northwood University.
She joined the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority in 1965 and remained active in the local chapter, holding many positions and attending conventions and reunions over the years. Sandy enjoyed traveling and visited every state except Alaska. She never missed her husband's softball games, but especially loved baseball, attending the Great Lakes Loons games as a season ticket holder with her husband Dave.
She is survived by her husband David Potts whom she married at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Munger MI on June 25, 1983. Also surviving are her brother, Thomas Canute of Traverse City MI; sister, Sharilyn (John) Daniel of Prattville AL; sisters in law, Suzanne Potts of Saginaw MI and Peggy Potts of Huntley IL; brother in law, Stephen (Barbara) Potts of Indianapolis IN; nieces, Dr. Laura (Howard) Portnoi of Long Beach CA, Christine (Brad) Schiedhauer of Arlington Heights IL, Stephanie Potts of Denver CO; nephew, Tim (Monique) Potts of Andover MA; great nieces, Eleanor and Jane Schiedhauer; and great nephews, Mateo and Alejandro Queto-Potts. She was predeceased by her parents in law, Douglas and Gertrude Potts; nephew, Jeffery Potts; and brother in law, Thomas Potts. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Meadow View Manor for their care over the past 4 years, and to her friends David and Nancy Purkis.
