Obituary of Marilyn Kay LaBonville
Marilyn Kay LaBonville, 76, of Midland passed away peacefully at home with family on September 26, 2015. Marilyn was a dearly loved wife of nearly 54 years, a wonderful mother and a special friend to many. She was born April 18, 1939 to the late Ira and Jerrine (Coffin) Cassady in Ithaca, Michigan where she fondly remembered growing up on a farm and attending a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from the Comptometer Institute in Lansing and worked for Detroiter Mobile Homes Inc. when she met and later married Abe LaBonville on October 14, 1961 in Ithaca.
They lived in St. Louis, Michigan until 1964 when they moved to Midland and started their family. Marilyn owned a cake and candy shop on M-20 for years and is well-known among Midlanders as the "Cake Lady". Those who were fortunate enough to know her well remember that Marilyn was active, independent and game for any adventure! She loved the outdoors, especially the sun and the water.
She was very active in the community both locally in Midland as well as at their winter home in Pine Island, Florida which they enjoyed together for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Nimble Thimble Quilters, Ladies of the Elks, a bowling league and bocce ball league, to name a few. Marilyn enjoyed quilting, knitting, painting, all types of crafts, piano, line dancing, and many other activities. For ten years, she and Abe lived summers in Frankfurt to be near their boat and friends at the East Shore Marina, returning recently to live in Midland.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Adrian (Abe) of Midland; son Mark (Sue) LaBonville of Sanford; daughter Linda (Kris) Hepinstall of Midland; grandchildren Erin (Matthew) Quebbeman of Kalamazoo, Brent Hepinstall of Midland, Kaleb LaBonville of Sanford, and Cassandra LaBonville of Sanford; and a precious great-granddaughter Lillian Grace Quebbeman.
At Marilyn's request, the family will host a Celebration of Life on October 11, 2015 at 1:30 (food served at 2:00) at the Midland American Legion Berryhill Post 165. There will be no funeral service. Those wishing to make a donation are asked to consider the Elsa U. Pardee Foundation or MidMichigan Home Care & Hospice.
