Obituary of Donald August Peppel
Donald August Peppel, age 78, of Standish, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024, of congestive heart failure at the Standish Skilled Nursing facility in Standish, Michigan. Donald was born March 7, 1946 to the late Herbert Peppel and Ellen (Sheppard) Peppel. Don attended Standish-Sterling high school.
He grew up on a dairy and cash crop farm and had a lifelong interest in farming activities. Don was employed by Farm Bureau Services in Linwood and in the Lansing office where he was manager of petroleum products distribution for the State of Michigan. He lived in the Grand Ledge area, and after retiring, moved back to Standish.
Don was a very sociable person and enjoyed many group activities. He had an interest in cooking, and with family and friends, catered many weddings, reunions, and other events. In his younger days he was a pilot and owned or had an interest in several small private airplanes.
Don is survived by his sons, William Peppel of Standish and Jeffery Peppel of Lake Isabella; grandchildren, Julie Panetta (Jacob) of Gladwin and Danielle Hine (Bucky) of Sterling; great-grandsons, William Peppel and Grant Hine; great-granddaughter, Harper Hine; nieces, Jennifer Kozlowski of Standish, Kelly Peppel of Standish, and Sally (Thad) Wilkinson of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; brothers, Jon Peppel and Raymond Peppel of Standish; and sister, Kay Morris of Lapeer. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Heidi Pelkey of Lexington, Kentucky; and brother-in-law, Don Morris of Lapeer.
