Obituary of Edna H. Kay-Simons
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edna H. Kay-Simons of Bay City, Michigan passed away May 24, 2024 at Bay County Medical Care Facility, Essexville, Michigan. She was born June 24, 1927 London, England to the late Ester Freed and Charles "Charlie" Kay. She had received an Associate Degree from Delta College around 1980 and encouraged people of all ages to further their education.
Edna Kay-Simons was there from the beginning, 1978, the Guadalupe Center, Mary Sinclair, the formation of the Lone Tree Council, and the marches against the Midland Nuclear Plant. She was a founder, a stable voice on the executive board, and spoke her truth to all, regardless of position or status. She was a strong committed progressive woman, a stalwart in the Bay County Democratic Party and her feistiness did not diminish with age. As we moved into the fight over climate change, she was there, center stage. Edna received the top volunteer award for the Bay County Democratic Party, the Tony Bielawski award. She will be missed. Terry Miller, Chair, Lone Tree Council.
She is survived by daughter Kar'en R. Simons and "official " daughter Patty Dinsmore- our true angel with skin on. Gillian Brodie amongst other British cousins, Nephew Harley Rudoi and Niece Monica Niles. The most wonderful friends of the heart, Gloria Woods, Larry LaMere, Lynn and Jim Derck. She was predeceased by daughters Sonya "Sunny" Simons (December 2020), Michele "Muzzik" Simons (April 2024), and ex-husband Moss Simons (June 2000). Very special close friends of the heart Patricia Murphy Race and Dolores "Dolly" Dinsmore - I'm sure their reunion is spectacular!
