Obituary of Sachiko Kanegae Claus

Sachiko Claus died peacefully on Saturday August 19, 2023 after a lengthy illness.
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Richard Claus; her brother, Tsuyoshi Kanegae; numerous nieces and nephews including Mamumi Kato, and Natsuki Nishiyama; and close friends, Daniel and Mary Graiver and Judith Thomas. She was predeceased by her sister, Keiko Kanegushi; and her first husband, Arthur Cramer.
Sachiko Kanegae was born on September 4, 1941 in Kobe Japan; her father Kinuzu Kinuzau was a banker and her mother Kinuko Kanegae was a seamstress and homemaker. Sachiko came to Michigan with her first husband in 1965, and he predeceased her 1979. In 1980, she married Richard Claus.
The practice of nursing was a lifelong passion for Sachiko. She was an R.N. and later a Nurse Practitioner. She earned a PhD and was a professor of nursing at SVSU for over 30 years, becoming a Professor Emeritus. She was an active member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society, through which she was involved in advancing best practices in nursing and needs assessments within nursing programs. She was also the founding President of the Kameda School of Nursing in Kamogawa, Japan.
In addition to her love of nursing, she enjoyed sketching/painting, gardening, and maintaining her connection with Japan through visits and NHK programming.
Per her wishes, cremation has occurred and there will be no formal funeral services.
