Caroline passed away on May 14, 2023 at the age of 83. She was born in Lansing, Michigan on December 9, 1939 to the late Walter H. Root and Maryann R. Frey. Caroline was a member of UAW Local #652 and worked for GM for 32 years. She enjoyed reading, crafting, camping, time with her grandchildren and her pets. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed helping others.

Caroline is survived by her sister, Joann Cox; son, Gregory Hotelling; daughters, Patricia (Ken) Foster, Debra Carr, and Dawn Carter; grandchildren, Ariniko (Pat) Foster, Brittni (Bobby) Cooper, and Briar Foster; great-grandchildren, Landyn and Elayna Cooper. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Merritt; sister, Coulette Parent; brother, Jacob Root; daughter, Laurie Hotelling; and grandson, Walter Foster.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, June 17, 2023, at Brinton Chapel, 8026 W. Stevenson Lake Rd., Lake Michigan 48632.
