Obituary of Bruce Earl Brown

Bruce Earl Brown, age 87, of Ubly passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, surrounded by his family at McLaren Thumb Region. Bruce was born on June 4, 1934 in Snover to the late Bruce and Dorothy (McElhinney) Brown. He married Lola Marie Campbell on December 16, 1960, and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2018. Bruce graduated from Marlette High School, and then served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bruce and Lola lived in Snover until 1965 when they moved to Ubly. Bruce worked as manager of the former Bloch and Guggenheimer Pickle Factory in Bad Axe. Bruce and Lola would go on to own and operate several businesses throughout the years, including Snover Plumbing and Heating, The Brown House Restaurant, Huron Vending, Brown Bullet, Thumb Recycling, Huron Ice, Mid-Michigan Ice, and Ubly Mini Storage. Bruce was also an EMT for Bingham Township Ambulance for 25 years. Bruce was a member of several Village of Ubly groups which included: the Lions Club, Community Club, Historical Society, Village Council, and the Thumb Veterans Organization. He served on the Bingham Township Board of Review and was one of the founding members of Thumb Industries. Bruce and Lola enjoyed participating in the 1970’s productions of the Alabama Jubilee, and were proud members of The Wildwood Flowers for World Travel and Mind Enrichment with several of their close friends. Bruce was a member of the Ubly Christian Church, and a former member of the United Methodist Church of Ubly until it closed in 2019. Bruce enjoyed visiting with his friends – especially Marshall Osentoski, Allen Peruski, and Mindy Bender. Bruce is survived by his daughter, JoAnn; his sons, Matthew and Mark (Mary Donnellon); his daughters-in-law, Denise Brown and Stacie Valley; his grandchildren, Nicole Brown, Ryan Brown, Christina Parks, Christopher (Lisa) Parker, Christan (Chelli) Parker, Kenneth Nichols, Adrianna (Eric) Schmidt, Alyssa (Nathan) Simpson, Shelby Yaroch, Brittany (Jacob) Kozlowski, Derek Brown, Olivia Brown, and Isaac Brown; his great-grandchildren, Alis Brown, Atlas Brown, Silas Brown, Alexis Parks, TJ Parks, Joey Parker, Jackie Parker, Daniel Parker, Raven Nichols, Caden Schmidt, Oaklyn Schmidt, Brantley Simpson, Emma Simpson, Amelia Kozlowski, Joseph Kozlowski, and Malcolm Kozlowski. He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Jr. Special thanks are extended to the family members that cared for Bruce – including Mark and Kim Graham and Stacie Valley. Per Bruce’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Ubly Christian Church 2409 East Atwater Road, Ubly, Michigan (Ubly Heights Golf & Country Club).
