Roy passed away on May 10, 2017 at the age of 75 yrs from a 6 month battle with Leukemia. He was born on December 25, 1941 in Romulus, Wayne County, MI to the late Eugene & Lottie Talaga. Roy's family moved to Essexville in 1947 and he graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1960.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor activities, wood working, casino trips, and card games. He was a member of the National Guard from 1964 - 1970 and served during the Detroit riots. Roy was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Saginaw, MI until it closed in February 2017.
Roy worked for DeShano's building houses with twin brother Ray until 2000. Roy then worked maintenance at the Carriage House until 2005 when he retired.
He is survived by his wife Gail; two sons, Richard Talaga of Hope, MI andTom (Rhiannon) Talaga of Beaverton, MI; three step children, Jeanne Failing (Keith Harvey) of Bay City, MI, Marcey Gough (Fiancee Everett Willis) of Hilliard, OH, Patrick (Rachel) Gough of Wyoming, MI; and eight grandchildren, Joshua, Shawn, Ryan, Arianna, Joe, Anja, Robert, Michael. Also surviving are his sister, Bernadine (Raymond) Tacey of Essexville, MI; four brothers, John (Betty) Talaga of Tawas City, MI, Gene Talaga (Vicki Lucas) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Dave Talaga of Essexville, MI , his twin brother, Ray (Dorla) Talaga of Kawkawlin, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Carolyn Talaga.
The family extends special thanks to Pastor Daniel Garbow and all our friends and family that kept Roy in their prayers. Additional thanks to the Karmanos Cancer Center, McLaren visiting nurses, Hospice nurses, and the Toni & Trish House in Auburn. A Funeral Service will take place at 11 AM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church 4705 Brockway Rd, Saginaw MI, with Pastor Mark Lindloff officiating. The family will receive friends at church prior to the service from 10 AM – 11 AM. Cremation has taken place and Roy wishes are to be taken to Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Church (Brockway, Saginaw MI) or the Toni & Trish House in Auburn, MI.
