Obituary of Clayton Dick Kalmbach

CLAYTON D. KALMBACH

Clayton D. Kalmbach died on Monday, May 26, 2025 at his residence in Winter Village. He was born October 31,1953 to Maurice “Dale” & Dolores T Kalmbach of Birch Run.

He graduated in 1971 with honors from Birch Run High School. He participated in Football and Track and broke the pole vaulting school record with a 12’.4” jump in his Senior year. He attended MSU on a full scholarship where he double majored in Chemical Physics and Organic Chemistry. After graduation he served as a First Lieutenant in the Navy. Clayton returned to East Lansing after the Navy to work for the Michigan Department of Agriculture. He retired in 2000 and returned home to Birch Run to help run the family farm.

Clayton was very active and loved fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, and scuba diving. He was a lifelong certified scuba diver. He especially loved fishing and scuba diving with his Dad, Maurice Dale Kalmbach.

Clayton is survived by his siblings Steve (Karen) Kalmbach, Carla Kalmbach, Laura Kalmbach, and Amy (Richard) Carl and his nieces and nephews: Steven (Nicole) Kalmbach, Richard (Ariel) Carl Jr, Matthew Balanowski, Sara Green, Mark (Brooke) Balanowski, Tina (Bill) Ishmael, and Marci (Nikki) Calloway. He was predeceased by his parents, baby brother Marc Alan Kalmbach, sister Lana May Kalmbach, niece Brandie Lynn Carl.

Clayton will be laid to rest in the Birch Run Cemetery. A private family service will be held at a later date.
