Obituary of Sheren Welch
Please share a memory of Sheren to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sheren A. Welch, 87, wrapped up a life well-lived on February 4, 2025, in Gladwin, Michigan. Born on August 12, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Albert and Viola Plante, she filled every moment with creativity, kindness, and love when she wasn't lost in the pages of a book.
She spent years as a school bus driver for special needs children with Midland Public Schools, ensuring every child felt safe and cared for. She brought stories to life through her involvement and membership in the Midland Theater Guild, directing and producing plays. But above all, she was a reader, a knitter, a baker, and the ultimate host—her door was always open, and no one left her home hungry or feeling like a stranger.
Married to her best friend, Edward T. Welch, for 66 years, she built a family that she loved fiercely. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making every visit an adventure full of learning, laughter, and probably a little mischief.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; her son, Frances J. Welch; and her brothers, Floyd and Jerry Plante. She leaves behind her children, Jennifer L. Al-Hameli, Karen D. Malenfant, Thomas M. Welch, Bridget A. Welch-Strauch, and Christopher J. Welch, along with 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter—each of whom will carry on her love of life, laughter, and a well-played hand of cards.
She requested we celebrate—so that’s exactly what we’ll do. Planning will commence, and information will be provided for a future gathering to share stories, laughter, and a few of her favorite things. In lieu of flowers, do something she’d love: read a good book, bake something delicious, or welcome a friend of a friend like they’re family.
She lived with open arms and a whole heart—and that’s precisely how she’d want to be remembered. To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
