Obituary of Edward Joseph Courville, IV
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward J. Courville IV of Bay City, Michigan, passed away suddenly on February 4, 2025 with family at his side. Ed was born on June 20, 1953, to the late Edward III and Mary (Johnston) Courville.
Ed is survived by his wife, Deb (Sobczak) who he married on May 7, 1981, along with his daughter Shannon Courville, son Edward Courville V, sister Patricia Courville, brother-in-law Mark (Janet) Sobczak, nieces Amy Condon, Tracy (Kevin) McMann, Deana (Chad) Cunningham, Marnie Neiman, Brandi (Erwin) Helmreich, Andrea (Ryan) Howard, Alana (Derrick) Parent, Allison Sobczak, nephews Raymond (Michele) Condon, Robert Condon, Gerald Bardin, Jason Reif, and Justin (Christine) Dyjak. Ed is also survived by his stepbrother Larry Rood and many great nieces and nephews, as well as friends Trent Tacey, Bruce Suchy, Dave Deford and Ron Shimel.
Ed also leaves behind his cat Boo and a colony of many feral cats. He loved providing shelters for them, and driving Deb crazy by overfeeding them. They are the fattest feral cats in Bay City! He insisted they were not fat, but wearing their “winter coats” - even in the summer.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his stepfather Charles Rood, father-in-law Bernard Sobczak, mother-in-law Ella Sobczak, sister Kathleen Condon, brother-in law John Condon, sisters-in-law Julie Habowski, Marilyn Sobczak, Nancy DeMaria, and nieces Lisa Sobczak and April Schatzer.
Ed was very talented, and there was nothing he couldn’t do. He was very creative and had many hobbies including making stained glass lamps and windows and wood carving. He loved to fish and watch old western movies. He loved classic rock. Led Zeppelin was his favorite.
Ed's family would like to thank the staff at McLaren Bay Region for the great care and support they gave him and his family during this uncertain and difficult time.
In accordance with Ed’s wishes, he was a Gift of Life donor and cremation has taken place. No funeral services will be held. The family appreciates your understanding and support during this time.
